I used to wait up for you.
With my head against the pillow,
I’d gaze at the stars,
Try to guess which ones you were looking at,
Then close my eyes,
Imagine flying past Venus and Mercury,
Straight into the sun,
Feel its’ warmth from both sides,
If only for a second,
Before I disintegrate,
Back,
Into bed,
Staring at the stars with heavy eyes,
Drifting off slowly,
Fighting to stay awake,
Hoping that you’ll come home.
